Dr. Rick's Monthly Question

February 2001

Question:

How has the role of chiropractic changed in the last 25 years?

Answer:

Chiropractic has come a long way!

Chiropractic has come a long way in 25 years-from being called an "unscientific cult" by the American Medical Association to being accepted as mainstream, complementary care, as highlighted in a Chicago Tribune News Service article that was printed in the Oregonian under "Living Smart" on 1/15/01.

Chiropractors are trained as drugless, non-surgical doctors for four years (actually with more classroom hours than medical doctors) and licensed in all fifty states. They are the third-largest group of health-care professionals (after medical doctors and dentists) who have primary contact with patients. They treat more than just back and neck pain. These days they have a much wider range, including, for instance, sinus problems, digestive disorders, sleep problems, asthma, fibromyalgia, and overall disruption of the natural balance of the body.
