Dr. Rick's Monthly Question
September 2001
Question:
What happens when we slouch?
Answer:
Slouching, known in professional circles as "forward head posture", not only looks bad, it is unhealthy! As Dr. Joseph Ventura, DC says in his excellent presentation that I show my patients, "Posture is the window to the spine." Poor posture puts extra stress on the neck, back, and pelvis that leads to painful muscle tension and decay of joints. Poor posture can interfere with the proper function of the nervous system and, since the nervous system is the master control system for the whole body, even the proper function of organs, such as circulation of blood and lymph, breathing and digestion. Poor posture has devastating consequences on our health! See a chiropractor for professional advice and treatment of this serious, and often ignored, problem.
