Assessing Your Sense of Balance.
By Dr. Rick Allen, DC
Our sense of balance is critically important. After all, we need a good sense of balance to dance well! As we age, our sense of balance decreases unless we exercise it. It's a case of use it or lose it . The first step is to assess how good your sense of balance is now. A simple test is to try balancing on one foot with your eyes open and then with your eyes closed. You should be able to balance for at least 30 seconds with your eyes open preferably more and at least 10 seconds with your eyes closed. Be sure to do this test with both feet. They should be about the same, although you may notice being a bit better on one foot. You have a dominant foot, just like you have a dominant hand.
